Life is a Rich Pageant

*Non-Gig* Posters

We have worked over the course of a 2017 to create a collection of new prints that interpret a small section of the myriad absurdities of existence. Some of these works are silly. Some are sad. Some are fun. Some are angry. Some are fine. Some are pop. Some are big. Some are small. Some are complicated. Some are simple. Some are poignant. Some are absolute idiocy.

All are silkscreens. None are gig posters.

Steve Oliva grew up in Asheville, NC, and Cape May, NJ. He studied English at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He works as a designer, illustrator, printmaker, and musician in Durham, NC. He loves rock and roll.

Chris Williams is a self-trained silkscreen artist. After getting his start asking questions of local printmakers and spending countless hours on, he has grown Plastic Flame Press in the last decade to doing work for touring bands and universities. His most consistent work has been for Carrboro, NC’s Cat’s Cradle, having done several hundred posters for the club since 2005. In addition to numerous gallery shows showcasing his gigposter work, Chris has served as one of the primary artists for Raleigh’s Hopscotch Music Festival and, in 2010, was invited to become a part of the Southern Folklife Collection at UNC-Chapel Hill, which now holds over 400 of his posters, prints and flyers.
Past and current clients include: the North Carolina Museum of Art, Duke Performances, NC State, Local 506, Yonder Mountain String Band, The Pinhook, American Aquarium, Koka Booth Amphitheatre, The Independent Weekly, Comedy Minus One Records, Phratry Records, Conan Neutron and the Secret Friends, Screens ‘n’ Suds, Hopscotch Music Festival, Dusky Electronics, Creative Action Network. He lives in Durham, with his son, Seamus.
